Ref-Package Library Not showing up

I have been trying to get my eagle 6.2 and 6.1 to show the Ref-Packages in my add window in a schematic.  I have double checked the control panel and the ref packages are turned on and set to use.  What is the deal, why can't I get these to show up in my add window in the schematic.  I have tried to also reinstall but with no luck.

    Hi Justin,

     

    Packages can't be placed in the schematic, hence why the ref-packages

    library doesn't show up in the schematic editor.

     

    If you use the add command in the board editor you will be able to see

    the ref-packages library.

    Ah ha I see that now.  I have never used add in a way that you would add the part in the schematic.  When ever I try to add these now it says I can't backnotate.  So can I not integrate these with already created schematic?

    Hi Justin,

     

    You're partially correct. EAGLE won't allow you to bring in a package

    into the board because that would break consistency. It makes sense if

    you think about it, how many components in the world use a DIP-08

    package for instance? The LM741, LM555, TL082, etc. If you just bring

    the package into the layout how would the schematic reflect the specific

    part you're trying to use?

     

    The correct workflow is to setup everything in the schematic first that

    way things are setup for the board.

     

    What you should do is make a proper library components with associated

    symbol and package, put that in your schematic and then the package will

    follow. See Chp8 of the EAGLE manual for the most comprehensive tutorial

    or Google EAGLE tutorials you'll find several good ones. Dangerous
