PCB editor does not respond to mouse clicks

Former Member
Former Member over 13 years ago

all  of a sudden Eagle 6.3 (free version) does not respond to mouse clicks properly.  Sometimes I can click on an icon like the eyeball and I click on the pcb trace and it works - but most of the time it seems to be clicking the eyeball icon over and over no matter where I click on the pcb.  Mouse wheel seems to work as expected but sometimes when I wheel click to pan the drawing jumps to some other location before beginning the pan operation.  similar problems in schematic editor.  I uninstalled and reinstalled and that did not help.  In AutoCAD the mouse buttons work as expected as does mouse wheel for zoom and pan.  Other applications seem to work properly.

Mouse - MS Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500

OS = XP Pro

Dell Precision M4400 with 4 GB memory

Any ideas on what the problem might be?

Thanks,

Burke

    Hi,

could it be a matter of what is assigned to the left mouse button? Is

it a simple mouse click or could it be a double click?

I re-checked the settings for the mouse buttons and they are as they were before when it all worked properly.  The left button is set as simply a click (as is the right button and the middle wheel/button).  It acts like the mouse is stuck over the user interface button I click when the program first opens.  When I click the eyeball the first time it goes to its depressed state.  When I move off the eyeball and click somewhere else I can see the eyeball button acting like I had clicked it again.  I can click on the menu or anywhere except the minimize, close and normal/full screen buttons and it acts the same.  Just now while testing to see if the the normal/full screen button worked I found that after clicking that button the mouse works for one click.  So I can change the action from the eyeball to the move button but can't move anything.  If I shrink then expand the window again a click will now perform the command indicated - so then I can move a componant.  If I shrink and expand the window after each mouse click I can get work done but it is obviously very slow and cumbersome.

    Thanks for your help,

I have been experimenting and found that the mouse clicks only work properly after switching from small window to full screen or vice versa as stated in my last post.  However, if I try to add part to the schematic I find that after picking the part from the library window and clicking OK the part appears on the schematic wherever my mouse happens to be at the time.  However, when I try to move the mouse and the part to the desired location it just stays where it originally appeared.  I thought I might be able to move it using the move command but when I expand and contract the window then click the move button, the part disappears.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled 6.3 and 6.2 and neither works with my mouse.  I also tried to use the touch pad and that is actually worse.

    Help!!!!!

    Hi

Its a while since I used Windows after switching fully to Linux, but it

comes to me that there is a eagle settings file in your user folder

    somewhere in documents and settings.

Did you delete this after uninstalling Eagle? Chance is that the mouce

button assignments are stored here and preserved after uninstalling

eagle. A fresh installation will first check for its existence before

eventually creating it thus inherit old settings.

If this does not help, then you should also flush the register for any

    traces of eagle settings key.

I suggest you try with a wired mouse.

If that fixes the problem then the batteries may need replacing/charging in

    your wireless mouse.

    All the best.
