Copying and Moving Nets to different pins. Not possible to be efficient?

jdavelement

A few things are slowing down my productivity now that I'm using Eagle.  I'm thinking someone knows some tricks to the biggest issues here:

I frequently change my mind on the pin assignment the nets to optimize layout to a CPU, BUT Eagle won't MOVE  connected nets or disconnect nets that are connected so that I can move them to a different pin.  I'd use COPY, but then they don't connect!  That's also a problem.  I used to just copy the net drawing to all the places it went.  It was a breeze.  Now I have to reenter the net for every component is goes to?  How do I get around this?

If I have to redraw the net and re-type the names of all of my nets just to change the pin assignments I need to quit my job where they make me use Eagle.  It's driving me mad.  Please help save a job or my sanity!

It's as if everything that took one-click in my old ProCAD software seems to take 3 in Eagle.  But I'm trying not to be a big whiner, I just want to go forward with supported software, so I trust that some scripts will get me efficient again.  (I've been doing layout for 15 years and have done a couple hundred different board designs, so I'm not a newbie.)

    Hello Joel,

It could be that I don't understand exactly what you're asking, but isn't

    PINSWAP what you're looking for?

    From the HELP:

The PINSWAP command is used to swap pins within the same symbol which have

been allocated the same swaplevel (> 0). Swaplevel, see PIN command. If a

board is tied to a schematic via Back Annotation two pads can only be

swapped if the related pins are swappable.

On a board without a schematic this command permits two pads in the same

package to be swapped. The Swaplevel is not checked in this case.

Wires attached to the swapped pins are moved with the pins so that short

circuits may appear. Please perform the DRC and correct possible errors.

    HTH,

    Richard
