Eagle 6.3.0 on Xubuntu 12.10

I recently installed Eagle 6.3.0 (using the shell script on Cadsoft's Downloads page) on Xubuntu 12.10 and I'm seeing some problems when trying to draw a schematic or create a symbol, etc. Specifically, the "edit screen" doesn't seem to refresh correctly so I get some whited out areas and copied parts of the image. I've attached a screenshot to show what I mean.

Also note that I installed an older version of Eagle (5.12) through my package manager and the problem existed there as well. This, together with the fact that I have used Eagle on previous installations of Xubuntu (12.04) and have not had this issue leads me to believe that it is something on the Linux side. However, I asked on Xubuntu's IRC channel and another user of Eagle + Xubuntu 12.10 said they do not see the same issue.

I forgot to mention that I am on a 64-bit release of Xubuntu 12.10. I've installed all of the lib32 libraries listed in the FAQ: Eagle and 64-bit Linux Systems. Has anyone had a problem like this? I've seen people mention having problems with the actual installation process, but I haven't had any issues with that.

    Same here!

First installed 5.12 from repositories, but had this redraw / refresh glitch. After installing 6.3.0 and running it straight away, it was fine, but next day booting my machine again, the problem now is there in 6.3.0 as well.

    Running Xubuntu 12.10 64bit on AMD cpu/gpu (using AMD's proprietary "fglrx-updates" video drivers from repositories - ).

Disabling desktop compositing didn't help either.

Setting video driver to open source "xserver-xorg-video-ati" solves glitches in Eagle 6.3.0, but causes other problems.

Just tried 6.4.0 - still having same glitch. Easiest way to test it is by selecting the Info tool in Schematic and clicking anything - graphics will instantly get messed up.

Also tried switching to the plain "fglrx" (without "-updates") video driver option, wich didnt help either.

As a temporary solution 6.4.0 windows version seems to be working perfectly fine with unmodified Wine (V 1.4.1. as WindowsXP, without virtual desktop).

I too can confirm this is an issue with both Xubuntu 12.10 and Lubuntu 12.10.

As others have said it is to do with the ATI proprietry driver. The Xorg driver works with eagle. However it does cause other issues on my systems (No video acceleration...).

Giving Wine a go to try the windows version.

    Regards
