Open EAGLE 6.4 Files in 5.11

Former Member
Former Member over 11 years ago

I’ve been using EAGLE 5.11 for a couple years with no problems. I recently up-graded to 6.4 and because it frequently crashed I went back to 5.11. Unfortunately while trying to use 6.4 I made a number of custom parts and several PCBs which will not open in 5.11; I get the message INVALID DATA.

Is there anything I can do to recover these files so they will open in 5.11?

It is well documented that V6 uses a completely different file format

(XML) than V5 (binary) and there is no backward compatibility.

For porting back anything to V5, you need to export it in V6 and import

it into V5. For libraries, this is rather simple using the EXPORT

command (generating a script which will build up the library when

executed in V5). Maybe you need to edit the script if it contains new

elements that are invalid in V5, but that can be dealt with.

Porting back design files requires use of an export ULP, please have a

look at the download section at CadSofts website. As mentioned above for

the libraryies, it may require some manual editing to make the script

    work in V5.
