Delete tNames

Former Member
Former Member over 12 years ago

I'm submitting to OSH park using Eaglecad - I run gen_silk to create my silkscreen and would like to delete tNames.  Even if a smash the part I seem unable to delete the names in the layer - It keeps complaining about back annotation.  Is there a way to easily clear and delete the tNames layer?

    Hi Ross,

Click on the layer tab and scroll down to the 't' or 'b' part of the layer you want deleted. Click the highlighted blue tab so it isn't there then press apply. This way you can see your change before you press ok. if you happen to chose the wrong one just click the spot where the blue was and it will put the part of the layer back on when you press apply. Press ok or cancel when done. Hope this helped!!

    Hi Dale,

The issue is not that I want to hide the layer when working on the board, it is when I upload the brd file to OSH_park it uses the _tNames as the silkscreen along with _tSilk.  As I already have the silkscreen generated vi gen_silk in _tSilk, I would like to delete everything from the _tNames layer so that it does not show up during fab - At the moment both _tSilk and _tNames are there.

It strikes me that this is one of the slight drawbacks of using a PCB

fab who take Eagle files. The one I use are more traditional, meaning I

have to run the CAM processor myself to generate Gerber files, which in

turn means that I get full control of which layers contribute to the

silkscreen. That said, I do always include the xNames layers for

component identification, because it's useful and I'm not usually

working at sufficient density to make it impractical.

If you need to remove all names from the tNames layer for OSH_park then

you will need to do the following:

    1) copy your brd file to a new one so that you aren't breaking your

    working version

    2) Make sure you have 'smashed' all of the components

    3) temporarily deselect all layers except tNames (and bNames)

    4) group select the whole board

    5) delete the group (ctrl-right-click)

    6) reselect all the other layers and save as the release to OSH_park

Instead to delete these attributes, after the "group" you could also just change for an other layer
