How do I redefine the PCB (board area)?

Former Member

Hi,

I started learning Eagle by putting existing boards into the schematic editor and then attempting to do the layout the same as the existing board.  The problem I have that not all boards are square or rectangular.  How can i redefine the board area to match the project I am working on.  For example, the one robot kit I build has a circular board with three "tentacles" protruding to the front where IR led's are mounted.  It also has a add on board which solders onto the main board.  How do add that extra little board into the equation?

Thank you

What you can do with odd shapes is to design the outline in an DXF editor.

Look at http://www.ilovefreesoftware.com/10/featured/5-free-autocad-editors-to-edit-dwg-dxf-file-formats.html for 5 free dxf editors to select from.

Once you created the DXF file, you can simple import this in eagle board layout using a User Language Program: dxfimport.ulp

Latest version you can find here: http://www.cadsoftusa.com/downloads/file/dxfimport1_3.zip

Just folow the instructions in the ULP and there is your outline.

    Wish you succes with this!

    Regards

    Tonnie

    Hi

Have a look at section 6.3 of the manual where it describes what you

want to know. The manuals are in the doc folder of your installation.

    All the best

    Warren

The importing of the DFX file worked B-E-A-Utifully!  Thank you thewillows

All I need to do now is to upgrade from the lite version so I can place the components where they should go on the board since it stretches outside the (100 80) limit of the light version.

    Regards,

    Jurie
