Attributes improvements.

Hi,

Attributes is really powerful but sometimes, to define them can be painful, in particular when we had to copy an paste and paste and paste...

- For global attributes: we often have to copy from SCH to BRD. In 'New attribute' and 'Change attribute' dialog box, a little option like 'apply in schematic' (or board if edit from schematic), would be welcome. So If we change or add one attribute that must be the same in schematic and board, we don't have to do it twice.

I know, there is already a post about this point... but ARgggg that would be great...

- For devices attributes in library editor: This is the most annoying part. If a part have several package variant, it's really painful to edit attributes, in particular with attributes with same

value for all package variant. We must close the Attributes window, select the other package, then open again the attributes window.

The best thing will be  a little change in this attributes window, by adding a list of the package variants, in the left bottom corner (on the same line of the NEW, CHANGE DEL OK Cancel Buttons). When we open the attributes window, we can see and edit the attributes of the current package, but we could also see/edit the attributes of the other variant, just by selecting an other package in this list. It would be easier to check and edit the attributes, of ALL the device package variant at once.

And (in the same spirit of the suggestion for global attributes) adding a little option to apply to all package in the 'New attribute' and 'Change attribute' dialog box would be useful too.

I agree that those buttons would be nice.  A better solution would be

project level attributes.  When a search for an attribute is done (i.e.

">XYZZY"), the search path could start at the variant, then the device,

file (.sch or .brd), an finally the project.

The term "Global Attributes" is somewhat of a misnomer; it should more

accurately be called "File Attributes".  The term "Global Attributes" is

just too unspecific when there's really nothing global about them.  They

don't apply across files, projects, installation instances, computers,

networks, companies, nor countries.  Admittedly, I'm bordering on the

    absurd, but so is "Global".

    Enjoy,

        - Chuck
