Hierarchical design questions

A more significant issue-

hierarchical structure without the associated board locations and

routing being removed for these components.

Is there a way to update a project without redoing the board layout?

This can be done if you put the circuits you want to convert to blocks

as there own sheets. You can then create the modules and move the sheets

into those modules. Sheets can be rearranged into an out of modules.

Thank you for the reply.  I may be missing a step regarding transfer of a sheet into a module.

Creating a new sheet with a circuit subset is no problem but I can't figure out the steps to convert it to a module.

When I drag the sheet to the new module it still rips up the existing board.  The problem seems to be related to the net names being changed during the transition to the module.

It would seem that the ports have to be declared simultaneously with the module creation to maintain the net.  Otherwise, Eagle rips up the board routing when the nets are modified during the transition.

Recently,

We've received reports of nets getting ripped up when net names

change.We're looking into this I'm sure this issue is related. I'll keep

you posted as things get resolved.

I also cannot find a way of moving already-routed parts of the board into modules.

When I move the sheet into the module all the component positions reset and the tracks are lost.

I've tried 7.1.0 and the beta of 7.1.1 with no luck.

Am I doing something wrong or is it a bug?

I've just tried 7.1.3 beta.

I still can't find any way - I mean any way at all - of moving part of a schematic into a module without losing all the routing.

Is there a way of doing this? I got the impression from the previous responses to this thread that there was meant to be.

Currently the Hierarchy is only setup at the schematic level, there's no

associated layout module, yet.

Now when moving items between sheets you want to use the MOVE command on

a GROUP. Even if you are only moving one part you have to do it as a

group. In this way the layout should be preserved.

Thanks for the response, however it still doesn't work for me (7.1.0 or 7.1.3 beta).

This is my method, in a schematic that is already routed:

1) Create module called TEST and place one instance.

2) Select other components in the sheet (I've tried just a few or the entire sheet).

3) Ctrl-right-click to pick up group.

4) Go to module sheet TEST:1

5) Left click to place group in module sheet.

6) Eagle pops up with a lot of warnings of the sort: "Rename net segment 'N$1' by supply pin 'GND'?". I'm not quite sure why this happens, but whether I answer yes or no to all these popups doesn't seem to make any difference. What do these mean?

7) All tracks in the group and the position of the components have been ripped up/reset.

Is this the method you meant?
