Grid preventing propper wiring

Former Member

Two problems, actually:

  1. Whatever I set on grid options never sticks after restarting the program (I need grid Size to be 1 mm on the schematic - Don't know exactly what Multiple and Alt stand for);
  2. Wiring/Net insist on connecting on the grid vertices instead of the component pins (I did place the components after changing the grid);

Ctrl+Move snaps the component, but changes nothing.

How to fix this ?

    The pin of the symbols need to be on grid in the schematic editor.

    The default libraries are all designed for a 100mil grid.

    If you switching the schematic to a 1mm grid none of the default

    libraries will work properly.

    May I ask, why you think to need the 1mm grid in the schematic?

    Now that's what I call bad software design.

    I need mm because of the components
    They are displayed in mm on the Add component browser

    And their dimensions (like length) are important. Even more important are the distances between pads of different components (I use the grid to locate myself).

    And last, but not least important: of around 192 countries in the world, I heard only tree of them use inch instead of mm. One is Mianmar (which I don't have a single idea of what continent it sits on).

    Hi,

    I agree that inch is less and less used in the world, and it's a good thing to use mm.

    In all my board I use a mm grid.

    But on schematic, I never change the grid, because of updating all the symbol.

    I don't understand why the dimension on pad components is important in your SCHEMATIC ? In you board, Yes I understand but in schematic nobody care about distance since it's symbolic representation (nothing to do with the real form of the component !!!!)

    Guillaume.

    You're right
    You're right...

    That's a big detail I did not realize: The schematic is not the actual board.

    That changes everything

    Feeling dumb right now
    image

    And on the board the grid works.

    Not perfectly, but it works.

    Thanks

    It's my fifth project, but only now units came to my concern.

    Only rests me to suggest the developers to take more care on units matters.

    Not changing big things, like the library, but other areas (whether it IS Incoherent to show mm on the component library and make it's model with mils)

    Even after changing the units I don't get integer values for Via widths, for example...

    Not cool.
