internal part connection and routing

jonhpeterson

eagle cad v 7.2.0

i have a part (didn't design it) with 3 pads and two pins:

add=next

swap=0

G$1.+ VCC@1 VCC@2

G$1.- GND

airwire and routing only to one of the VCC pads.

airwire will not go to the other VCC pad and routing to the other pad does not resolve the airwire.

I thought that either of the two pads should satisfy the routing and remove the airwire.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

    I mocked up a part as you describe and it worked as expected on v6.6 and

    v7.1 so post the library part so we can evaluate it.

    Not sure how to get just the part. It is the BATTERY/BATTERY12PTH part from the SparkFun-Electromechanical.lbr from https://github.com/sparkfun/SparkFun-Eagle-Libraries

    I modified the part to connect both positive pads to the single pin.

    And you are right, it routes OK if you put the device on the schematic not the package! My bad. (not sure why Eagle allows this to happen.)

    The only oddity left is that there is a airwire from pad to pad on the board. It passes all DRC checks. One would think there would be no airwires since the circuit is completed successfully. Thanks for helping me out. Jon

    It's a shame but correct that there is an airwire left as that pad has not

    been connected and the design/library part has specified that that pad

    shall be connected to the pin specified in the library part. The software

    cannot know the pin is connected via the installed component.

    All the best

    In the device editor you can either use 'connect all' or 'connect any'

    to connect the pads to a pin.

    The former results in the layout editor showing air wires to all pads,

    the latter lets the editor be content with only one pad routed.

    Had a little struggle with the command syntax. But got it to work. Big Thanks.
