Eagle brd and sch file format specification

Whats the deal with the BRD and SCH file format specification?

Are they described anywhere?

I am working on a content manatgement system for a client of mine, and they

would like to be able to view, but not edit, BRD and SCH files right inside

the content management system. The machines running the CMS will not have

Eagle installed on them.

Is the file specification publicly available, or even available via NDA ?

EAGLE has very powerful export capabilities by use of ULPs, you can

generate about any format you desire. This is all you can get.

FWIW: I have never - never - managed to read any Eagle exported data

into any other application. In particular I've been trying real hard with

netlists, but no application can read Eagle's output, and I have never

managed Eagle  to read any data exported by other applications.

So I'd gently resent "powerful export capabilities", because that

    statement is anything but true.

    Hello Rikard,

The default netlist export of EAGLE isn't any particular standard.  It's

easy to read if you are trying to do hand verification.  But I don't think

CadSoft ever intended it for inter-tool communication.

My company has a PADS netlist import/export tool.  I've personally used it

with success in both directions.  You can export a PADS netlist from an

EAGLE schematic and import into a PCB layout tool.  Or you can create your

schematic in another CAD tool and import the PADS netlist you get from it

to use EAGLE as the board editor.

    Cheers,

    James.
