Renaming a component error

pavanbabut
pavanbabut over 10 years ago

I have a schematic and board that I am going through the names of components. The problem I am having is whenever I try to delete a component in my case a cap (ex: C21) and then replace it with a different type cap, it changes its name to C00021 rather than C21 and when I try to rename it to C21 it gives me error that the component already exists, but when I try 'Show' command it doesn't show it and when I try to Show it on board, it says 'doesn't exist'. Very frustrating, I have few components that I want to replace with different type and its doing for all those.

Any ideas or suggestions?

thanks

Not sure if that tutorial has anything that answer's my question. I tried to read it word by word and all it shows you is how to create a device from scratch. I already did that when creating my devices and it worked fine all these years, but suddenly whenever I add a component after deleting it, it keeps adding 000 before the number as I mentioned earlier. If I create a whole new schematic form my current one and delete/add a component, it works fine, but if I copy my board into and then delete/add it does weirdly as I mentioned. I don't want to do my layout again from scratch, too much of a work.

    Any suggestions?

    thanks

Is your Schematic /Board pair currently consistent?

    Which version of Eagle?

    What operating system?

Running ERC may give you a clue to what's going on.

    Can you upload your schem/Board?

When I ran ERC on schematic, it shows 'Board and Schematic are consistent'.

I am using Eagle 6.5 on Windows 8.1

Not sure why this is happening, but I got around this problem by renaming the component to a number that's not on the board and then changing it back to the number that I want. For example C00021 -> C150 (not in my schematic) -> C21. This worked fine for my purpose.
