Add command - drop button and tree

I pressed the ADD icon and searched for a DIL package. Obviously lots of

libraries got expanded in the library tree view.

 

1) How do you shrink the tree again back to normal short of pressing a

thousand buttons on all the libraries tha tgot opened?

Hi Dave,

The libraries in the Add dialog are controlled with the "use" command.

See "help use" for more info, note you can use wildcards.

The "drop" button removes the selected library from the currently used

libraries.  So it is a graphical interface to the use command.  But if you

have a lot to do you're better to use the command line:

use -*;

use abc*;

The above will remove all libraries from use and add back only those that

start with "abc".  So the libraries abc1.lbr and abc3.lbr would be added,

but not abz.lbr.

I'd highly suggest copying any component you use to your own library

(under revision control) and then you only add parts out of your library.

And keep that library outside of the install directory.

Now you use the command "use -*;use mylib" and then the add dialog will

only have your library and you don't have to wait  the 10-20 seconds for

all the libraries that come with CadSoft to load into the add dialog every

time you add a part.

Of course, if you want the libraries back to help find something then it's

easy, simply type "use *" into the command line and every library in your

library path will be added to the add dialog.  Which reminds me, you need

to have the directory with mylib.lbr added to the library path in Control

Panel.

Which reminds me, you need to have the directory with mylib.lbr added to

the library path in Control Panel.

This prompts me to add: be sure to save your custom library someplace that

it will be backed up. Same with CAM, SCR and ULP files. I was fine with my

custom library, but forgot for the other files I modified and lost work

because it was in Program Files.

I have mistakenly "dropped" a library part about a thousand times....:-)

Thanks for your reply(s). I was aware of the USE command and have already

made a library of my own.

I was working on the tutorial in the book so I had all the libraries in

use just for ease of looking around.

So the one question still remains. How do you shrink the tree back down

once it's been blown open by the search function.

On a similar track. It seems once I searched for something I have been

unable to get other libraries to show again i.e get back to the view of all

the libraries. Seems like only the library where the item was found is

visible in the tree.

  I have gone back and issued the USE command again but this seems a bit

excessive to do every time you search for something.

Delete the item you searched for & then enter, all lbr will show again

Hmmm. I thought I tried that but your are correct  - clear the search

field and press  and the orignal list of libraries returns.

Not sure what I was doing.
