Air Wires are not showing

Collins
Collins over 2 years ago

I have taken an existing Eagle design and added some components and signals to the schematic. When I go to the PCB file, which is always opened with the schematic for back annotation, the parts have been placed but there are no air wires shown from those parts. How can I fix this?

Well look at that!. Yes, the unrouted layer had been turned off. Jumping into an existing design as a novice has been a challenge.

Be sure the connections on the schematic are properly made with "wires" not lines. The PCB will only show air wires if they are first connected on the schematic.

Yes that sounds correct. That was going to be the next thing I was going to ask : ) Bit of an unlikely thing, but has the "Unrouted" layer been switched off by accident? That would prevent them being…

    Hi Doug,

I think you mean the opposite, right? It's unfortunate naming, but the Net tool is the one that should be used, whereas the 'line' is created with the Wire tool (i.e. the tooltip calls it 'Wire'). Both will show air waves in certain conditions (i.e. when the grid is proper), however the Wire tool shouldn't be used, the Net tool is the one that's supported, Wire has some odd behaviour since it's not intended for it, (or at least it had odd behavior in old versions - don't know about new ones).

I meant you can draw lines that are not connections even though they look like a correct schematic. Wires and nets both make net connections. The Net tool is slightly more "automatic" and requires less precision.

Thanks Doug. I did use the nets tool, and they were connected, but the Unrouted  layer was turned off. Turned it on and all set now...
