Eagle used as a file viewer

We have only one designer working with eagle at this point. We do allow some

of our bench techs access to the files for troubleshooting. Those stations

are running the freeware version. All the design files are on a network

server.

Since these stations are supposed to be read-only, is there a way to lock

the save function so that there is no chance a file will be accidentally

corrupted?

If this is not an option, the next best option is to make a local copy of

the network design files (with a macro) and point the tech's copy of Eagle

to work off of the local copy.

Does anybody see a use for a 'Viewer' that will protect the unskilled casual

user from themselves (and the wrath of management)?

Why don't you just give those people only read access to those files?

After all, they could just as well delete or overwrite them from any

    other application.

Sounds reasonable to set the network permissions for that network resource.

Unfortunately we outsourced our IT and now it takes an act of the All-Mighty

    to get changes made.

All things considered, my alternate idea to write an OS batch file that

copies the .sch and .brd files locally for opening might be more do-able.

Are any other files necessary to effectively open an existing design? Just

want to copy the minimum needed files.
