Component Values on Schematic

Ok, more newbie questions.

 

I know that Eagle's philosophy is to have generic valueless components

(for instance, a generic resistor) which the user then assigns a value

to (for instance "10k") when the component is placed on the schematic.

 

However, for my business I want to generate BOMs automatically which

will then get uploaded to an ERP/MRP system with hopefully minimal hand

editing.  To achieve this it is desirable for me to create separate part

numbers for each component that correspond to my own internal part

numbering system.  Therefore, each component will have one package and

one value.  Is there a way to "hardcode" the values on each part so that

I don't have to manually go and edit it after I drop the part?  Also, in

some cases, it would be advantageous for the part to have this

pre-assigned value, but not have that value displayed on the

schematic.  For example, on a connector I might not want the part number

displayed on the schematic, but I do want it to show up in the BOM when

I run bom.ulp.  So, is there a way to have an invisible value on a part?

    I thought deleting a individual text string of a smashed part unsmashed

    that string.  Maybe that changed somewhere in some rev, but I'm pretty sure

    that's how it used to work.  That's why I create a layer called "trash" in

    the board, and move smashed text I don't want to that layer.

    don't know - works in v4.16. if you delete both smashed texts, they will

    come back however. but I like the idea of just moving it to an invisible

    layer, thanks.
