V7.5 slow graphics

Joop14
Joop14 over 10 years ago

I'm still using v6.60 but I decided (again) to give v7 a try so I installed v7.5.

I noticed immediately that the graphics engine is much slower.

Panning (keeping the middle mouse button pressed and moving the mouse) is super smooth with v6.60.

With v7.5 it's sluggish. I'm back to v6.60.

I hope you can fix this.

Kind Regards.

This is not a common problem. Could you give us some more details

about operating system and graphics card and drivers?

I tested it on two different brands of computers. One is a Fujitsu, the other one an Asus. Both have an Ati/AMD graphics card (5000 series).

Software is the same for both computers: Opensuse 13.2 64-bit, graphics driver: radeon

    Eagle version is v7.5 64-bit.

Eagle is generally very slow for me when panning, but I noticed that only after I switched to 4K monitor. On 1080p it worked well for me. Hiding grid helps a little bit. I have Intel integrated graphics on a Broadwell CPU, running on Intel driver on Linux.

Hello Jorge, I hope you are doing well.

Thank you for looking into this.

In order to reproduce the problem, install Opensuse 13.2 directly on a

pc, without using a virtual machine.

    http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/13.2/iso/openSUSE-13.2-DVD-x86_64.iso

Also, make sure your pc contains an Ati/AMD radeon graphics card.

    Kind Regards,

    Joop

    Hi,

there are differences between EAGLE 6.6 and 7 in Linux, true.

It is a matter of the Qt development environment. The newer versions

are not better here. We had some improvements with 7.3.0, but is not

as it was before. We still have it on the radar. Even the latest Qt

release did not solve the problem.

I have a similar system (SuSe 13.2, Radeon graphics) and have the same

    experience.

    Hi Joop,

I run a Xubuntu box here in the office and I don't notice a difference

between either one. With that said, I don't have a 4K monitor here to

test, so it could be a driver issue.

    Best Regards,

    Jorge Garcia
