Library Pad Grows when p laced on Board?

Hi,

 

I have a home-brew device (a couple of slots). In the device manager it

looks like this:

 

Note that the solder mask along the wire is the same size as the pad

diameter (red & green arrows).

 

However, when imported into a board, the pads on the large slot change

size?

 

See red arrow. Both slots are constructed the same way

(2xpadMillTopBottomtStop+bStop)

 

Why?

Can it be prevented?

    No, not at all. A check is a check is a check and should not modify the

    That's at least what I want (and probably never get).

    The most likely reason to specify a pad diameter in the library would be

    to specify a minimum restring for this component - or even a particular

    pad which has either strange-shaped pin or a current requirement -

    without forcing the DRC settings for the rest of the board. As that's a

    minimum requirement, you still want larger values in DRC to override it.

    Suppose I have a component - perhaps a DIL IC - which I'm using on a

    number of designs. Most of these are professionally produced PCBs where

    production tolerances are very good. I only need small currents here so

    it's convenient to use 12 thou tracks and similar restrings. This means

    I can route tracks between pins for more efficient layout.

     

    Now I want to use that same component on a board that I'm etching at

    home. Now I'm quite good at home etching so I'll happily use 16 thou

    tracks, but my drilling isn't so great. The restring needs to be at

    least 20 thou here.

     

    I'm also using it on a board to be etched by 14-year-old students.

    They're a lot worse than I am. For them I need at least 24 thou restring.

     

    Because of the way Eagle works, I can use the same library for all three

    projects, and just change the DRC settings.
