Snap to Grid not working properly

Former Member

I have eight 0.1 uF capacitors (GRM43D package), which I would like in a nice neat row. i have the grid set to 0.05inch (size and Alt both set the same).   When i drag these components around on my PCB, they dont snap to quite the right place, and they end up in a slightly ragged line, with slightly different spacings, which looks horrible. The error is about 1/4 of the grid "size" setting.  If I look at the position coordinates with "properties" they are definitely in the wrong place, by a small amount.   !!!!!

    Hi Neil,

I suspect they were initially placed on different grids and whilst they all move correctly with respect to your new grid it's all relative to their original placements. What you need to do is align them back to your new grid. On windows/linux this is done by selecting the move command and then doing a ctrl + left mouse click on each component in turn. If you are on OSX it's the same except it's cmd + left mouse click.

    Best Regards,

Thankyou Rachael - once again. That indeed fixed the problem. I am following several tutorials obn Eagle, but none mention this problem,.

I have  NEW PROBLEM - I have several components on my schematic that are clearly connected to  one other component , but no air wire is generated on the board screen. I have erassed & re-laid the schematic connection, and dragging the component on the schematic shows that it is connected. Putting a junction on the connection does the job, but why do I need a junction ?  If I delete the junction - the correct air wire remains in place ??

    Hi Neil,

I'm glad to hear your grid snap issues are resolved :-)

For your latest issue, this may be harder to work out. My first question would be have you used the 'net' tool to connect things up or 'wire' tool? The correct one to use is 'net'.

    Best Regards,

    Rachael
