Eagle Library

I am trying to learn Eagle by making a schematic that uses a TI OPA1632 full differential opamp. This device is not in the Eagle libraries as far as I can tell.

I am encountering TWO (2) related issues...

On the Element14 site I find a CAD file for this device and follow the instructions in a README file

1. Start Eagle

2. Select File -> New -> Library

3. In blank library window, select File -> Script      [this item does not exist. There is an EXECUTE SCRIPT option which I assume is what we want. This opens a library window]

4 Select the EDIT tab    [this is impossible as that window with that option is now covered by the library window I just opened with the EXECUTE SCRIPT]

5. Browse to the correct EAGLE script file [I do this and find the OPA1632 script where I stashed it]

6. After opening the file, the script will populate the new library

7. Use FILE -> SAVE (or Save As ..) to save the library to the desired location in EAGLE native format.

SO, after doing what is feasible, I see a large library listing with my new library included.

BUT, when I go to the schematic editor, that library is not present. I've gone around this prickly pear several times and get the same non-result.

Also, I can inspect the contents of the OPA1632  library item from that lib window, and it has the correct PCB pad. However, the schematic symbol is not useful -- a box with named signal I/Os and no pin numbers. What is desired here is the symbol we find in the data sheet -- a typical opamp triangle etc.  I tried to edit the symbol but got an error that to do so would exceed the number of pads allowed.

I really need some guidance

THanks

Gary Nelson.

    Hi Gary,

I think the issue you are now having is the library is not selected for use. You can confirm this by going to the main EAGLE Control Panel window and look at the list of libraries. You should see that all the libs have a green dot to the right hand side of them. I suspect your new lib will have a grey dot. If this is the case then simply right click on your new library and select 'Use'. The dot will go green and the library should now show up in your schematics.

    Best Regards,

    Rachael
