Deleting internal layers

I'm modifying a previous design into something different.  The original

design was laid out on a 4-layer board, but I'd like to lay out the new one

on a 2-layer board.  I've set things up correctly on the layers tab in DRC,

but the Layers panel in the board designer still shows the internal layers,

and it gives me an error when I try to delete them ("Can't delete internal

layers.").  Is there a way around this? If push comes to shove, is it safe

to just ignore the internal layers while I'm routing?

The reason I'm not creating a new design from scratch is that there's a

power supply section in the original design that was kind of tricky to

route, so I'd like to preserve it.  Everything else is just airwires I'll

have to re-route.  Thanks.

I'm running v4.16 on Win7 x64.

That cannot be done in v.4.16 without tricks on a binary base and the

    layers must be empty.

The first version where that was possible was 5.12

Thanks, Joern.  One of these days I'll have to upgrade, but since I rarely

use the autorouter it's not clear to me what the benefit would be.  I guess

this would be one.  In the meantime, can I just ignore the inner layers as

I route and when I produce my Gerbers?

IMHO the autorouter is for the birds image

If you produce Gerbers for a board house just talk to them to ignore the

    inner layers.
