create project from exist ing .sch and .brd files?

Greetings - clearly I am using the wrong keyword search - it must be a

simple process.  For example, on Github, there is a .sch and .brd file for

the Adafruit Huzzah board.  I can download the files, but I can't find the

incantation to create a project from the two files.  I can create a project

easily and I can copy the two files into the project folder, but the

project does not seem to know about the files.  It is easy to find info on

creating a new schematic in a project, but I have not been able to find how

to import the existing files into the project so it sees them.  (I have the

non-profit license).

Thanks!

Mike Fields

Really? So you've created a new project in Eagle, which creates a folder

on your disk, then you put the two files in that folder and... the

control panel can't see them? When you expand the project folder, it's

    empty?

If so, you are running Windows and Microsoft have shafted you. It's to

do with fake folders and things not being where you think they are. The

best bet is to change Eagle's default storage locations to a part of the

disk that isn't affected by that catastrophe, such as a new folder in

c:\work\eagle (don't use "My Documents" or "Program Data" or any of

    those pre-existing pseudo-locations).

IF the files do appear, then follow these two complex steps:

    - activate the project (click on the grey dot so it goes green)

    - double-click on the schematic

OK, they weren't all that complex, were they.

Not really.. You need an .epf file to really display the folder as a

project in the control panel, but they do not have a strong dependancy.

Usually when I download .brd and .sch files, I copy one of my .epf files

from another project to the same folder. Only then, the folder will

appear as a project folder in the control panel.

Of course, when I open this project folder first time, it will try to

open the last .sch and .brd used for the copied project, wich will be

empty, but you can safely close them and click the brd or sch files in

the project folder (while this project is open). Now the .epf will be

tied to the downloaded .brd and .sch.

Note, the .epf will remember certain parameters, like window positions,

last opened .brd and .sch files, drill diameters used and such. Also

note that some parameters get lost if you close a brd or sch while the

project is open. This is an annoying side effect of the way "projects"

    are handled in Eagle.

Thanks for the help people!  I have been bitten before by the Windows

"Virtual Store" thing (I don't mind it saying you can't put things

somewhere because of protections, but TELL ME !!  - I like Linux that way

"permission denied" and you work the problem instead of this nonsense where

you put it somewhere else, don't tell the user then it doesn't work!).  I

should have mentioned I was running Win7/64

I was aware from reading just how the .epf file was key to the project,

what I had not been able to find was how to create a project from existing

brd and .sch files.  I shall add your comments to my notes.  Much

    appreciated !!

Hmmm - thought we could edit our posts.  Anyway, I forgot to mention that I

have set up my directories so that Projects are in

"$HOME\eagle\Projects;$EAGLEDIR\projects\examples" so it looks in my $HOME

    first for stuff.
