V8 update questions

I think even if you purchased 7 license a month ago, you must start paying their

protection money without any compensation.  This is probably also "non-negotiable".

At least in Linux, it seems totally possible to have different versions of Eagle

installed and even run them at the same time and copy/paste between them.  I

don't know how this works in Windows or Mac, though.

Hi Morten,

I'm not 100% sure. I think designblocks are treated as a special type in

the file format. You can try it out now, it won't overwrite V7 it

installs to it's own directory.

of releases show that some times it is best to stay one version behind.

Will the subscription model even allow this?

It does, when a new update becomes available you will see a download

update button on the control panel. Click it when you want to, it will

tell you what the latest version is.

But would you be able to have multiple versions of v8 installed? Say install 8.0.0 now and be able to run 8.1 in parallel when that became available? Sometimes you want to test out a new release before committing to it, other times you need to maintain different release versions for different clients jobs....

Hi Rachael,

As of right now EAGLE doesn't update in place so you would be able to

have them side by side I intend to do that myself once we reach that point.

If I hear of any attempt to make EAGLE update in place then I'll make

sure to request the option to not overwrite the previous version.

It sounds to me like I need to be cafeful and backup my user folders..

This does not give a clear answer. What if I do intall latest, but find

bugs that requires be to go back a version?
