Hi,

you can have inner layer with signal wires only or you can have inner layers with additional polygons. In terms of distortion, electromagnetic compliance, high speed designs and so on it can be helpful to use polygons. This depends on the project you are designing.

Hi Yash,

the drill size and the via diameter are related through the restring settings in the Design Rules. Smaller drill sizes can result in smaller diameters of the vias. So please check this. If it is okay, you can ignore the DRC errors. Or you simply change the Min. drill value in the Design Rules.

Concerning minimum distances and wire width for prototyping: I am not experienced in this so I can't be helpful in this subject. please post a message in the EAGLE Support forum. I think you will get a quick and proper answer from one of our EAGLE users there.

About the setup of multi layer boards you should take a look into the EAGLE manual. There is a chapter dealing with this subject.

I had some queries about a project I've been designing in Eagle:

1. I'm getting DRC errors if I keep the drill size of my vias at  proto(or lesser than) 0.6 mm. Does this drill size cause any problems during prototyping?

2. Also, can I safely pass a route between two pins of a 0805 passive component without risking a short while prototyping?

3. Similarly, would it be safe to pass a wire between two pins of an SOIC chip?

4. I want to fit my circuit in as little space as possible. Could you direct me to any online/offline tutorial to creating multi-layer PCB's in Eagle?

Hi Marvin,

it is possible to import simple bmp images into EAGLE. There is import-bmp.ulp you can use. Best is to have black/white graphics because each color uses one layer in EAGLE.

For more illustrative imges it might be better to do it the other way round. As you suggested: Export the Schematic and add the image later. .....
