BGA & microvia howto

Hi Richard,

 

I use Eagle software V6.2.

It is the first time I route a BGA component and I have difficulties to use the "route-bga.ulp" tool.

I get more then 400 DRC errors ! 2 types of error are listed: "drill distance" on layer 20 and "overlap" on layer 1,15 and 16.

    it is not easy to find out what the problems are without having the orignal brd file, but there are some suggestions I have:

    1. please check the layer setup. You used  (((1*2)*3)*(14*(15*16)))  which is no good choice.
    This way EAGLE can't use micro vioas because there are none defined. You defined only through hole vias.

    My suggestion is:   [3:(1+(2*3)+(14*15)+16):14]  The brackets [] define blind vias, which can be used for micro vias too.

     

    2. Change the value for Via-SMD for Same signals to 0. So no errors should be reported for vias on SMDs.
