Need library for RJ11 6P4C Modular Connector

beic
beic over 9 years ago

I recently bought these type of low profile RJ11 6P4C 4 Pin 90 Degree Needle Welded Type Modular Telephone Connector for my electronics project, but unfortunately I can't find any Eagle CAD library or schematic part, footprint for it.

Is there anyone who already has this part library or something?

btw...the seller didn't provide me any Technical datasheet upon my request! image

Hi shabaz, Finally I made it, so now I just need to test it on PCB! Regards

    Hi Viktor,

You could resort to measuring it, and constructing your own EAGLE part for it.

If you don't know how to construct a part, it is in the EAGLE manual (and dozens of Youtube videos probably).

Expect to spend a few hours initially practising/going through tutorials, and then ten minutes constructing it.

    Hi shabaz,

Yes, you are right about that, finally I have found some technical data after approx. 2 month of searching!

My issue is that I don't know how to make my custom part and a footprint, I guess I'm too n00b for that, already spent a few hours struggling with it! image

    What I have found:

And those bellow, I think they are the same (more accurate), just shows the 6 pinhole, I only need 4 pinholes (like shown on my first picture post), if I'm not wrong.

    Hi Viktor,

Creating your own custom parts is easy once you get the hang of it. Here are a couple of good tutorials you can go through to get the essentials of what you need to do:

    From Adafruit: https://learn.adafruit.com/ktowns-ultimate-creating-parts-in-eagle-tutorial/introduction

From Dangerous Prototypes: Cadsoft Eagle how to make parts tutorial - DP

Once you get the hang of the basics you can then build on that with more advanced features like technologies, variants and enabling pin swapping etc.

Here is a site with a few tutorials on these topics: Ilektronx: eagle tutorial

If you are planning on doing any serious design work in Eagle I recommend creating your own libraries from scratch rather than trying to find libraries for things you want to use on the internet. A lot of libraries you can find are of varying quality and generally I find it takes as long or longer to sort out a third party library to look right and check them for accuracy (very important!) than to just create them from scratch in the first place which once you get used to it and have an existing library of symbols and footprints to base things on, can be done in a matter of minutes for a lot of parts.

    Hi Viktor,

I am also using the same component in a project. You would post the CAD Eagle did you do?

    Thank you.

    Hi Brad,

Given that you should always thoroughly check any 3rd party libraries you use anyway, it'll probably just be quicker to create it yourself than post on here and hope the OP reads it and uploads their library for you. With a little practice, creating library parts for even the most complex of parts can be quite quick and certainly things like connectors won't take very many minutes at all once you start to build up your own library of symbols and footprints. I listed some good tutorials for getting started in my post above so if you are not familiar with the way to create components in EAGLE, then I recommend these are a good place to start. Then read the docs thoroughly once you have understood the basics from the tutorials and you'll soon be knocking out libraries in no time :-)

    Best Regards,

    Rachael
