Am I connecting electrically two wires if I connect 2 lines

mikelima

Suppose this situation. I have 3 resistors in parallel. I draw a line from resistor 1 to 3, like the picture below.

Are these 4 resistors connected electrically of do I need to put a junction like this?

My intention is to convert this into a PCB later.

Another question... are two lines that touch connected electrically or do I have to put a junction?

Thanks

    Mike,

The wires are connected even if you do not place a junction on the connection.  That being said, there are instances where wires that look to be connected are not actual connected.  The two best ways that I know are to use the 'show' feature or the 'move feature.

SHOW - With 'show' selected, click on a wire.  All connected wires will switch to the highlight color.

MOVE - With 'move' selected, click on a wire and move the mouse.  All wires connected (physically) to the wire will move together with the mouse movement.

The 'ERC' feature will tell you if you are missing junctions.  But, missing junctions will not effect your ability to generate a board layout.  The junctions are more for readability of your schematic.

    Good luck!

    Gene

    Hello Mike,

Using the move tool is a good way to find out if the wires are connected -as explained by genebren-. Using junctions is highly recommended as eagle won't show errors when using the ERC check, also if at the end of your work, you have wires overlapping each other, a junction will tell whoever is reading the schematic which ones are connected.

    Hi Mike,

Although what you've done can work fine, I think you're using the 'Wire' tool from the tool palette. It has the visible symptom that there is no blob automatically created when a wire terminated on top of another wire.

The 'Wire' tool should not be used as a result, and instead the 'Net' tool should be used from that tool palette. When that tool is used, there is no need to ever place a manual junction.

EAGLE being what it is, allows you to manually do these things as an option, but is unnecessary if you use the Net tool.
