I don't get this thread at all. There's an assumption that symbols or footprints require library files which is incorrect. So, the assumption that an old particular version of EAGLE is required based on that, is also not the case.
The OP mentions that version 5 of EAGLE was missing symbols. Maybe they were actually not in the original project(s). They were created by students after all. Some screenshot would help but OP doesn't seem to want to share any example to demonstrate the problem.
It makes no sense to seek such a particular ancient version of EAGLE. Simply use a more recent version, then save the file in the most recent format. Then import into the CAD package of your choice (e.g. KiCad if you wish - your choice).

Thank you very much for your attention to my matter.
I didn't mention that the projects were carried out by students, I mentioned that they were part of a robotics group that included our entire school community.
The message dougw put "Eagle design files do include all component information." led us to try to find, in our network of contacts, at least one of the group members to clarify some points, but so far it has not been possible to contact anyone.
Since you show a lot of interest in helping us, I will publishy a file that has already been opened in Eagle version 5.11.0.
I think this file that I'm going to send will not have any legal issues.
In this case, from the file name we can identify that the missing component must be a Timer, but which one?
By the way, I should mention that our first obstacle was not the Software but rather the 3.5'' floppy disk readers to get the files.

This schematic I've completed with the timer and I created the PCB as well for you. The Cadsoft Eagle version is 7.7.0

You can build a single side board and the red tracks can be a wire bridge. That via holes are in 0.8 mm.
The project files:
I saved it in version 7.7.0; so you can easily convert it into KiCad.
The latest version of Cadsoft Eagle is 9.6.0; ==> Autodesk Fusion 360.
The version 9.6.0 will ending in 2026, so you can work with Fusion 360.
Or, cheaper with KiCad, what I recommend for you.
Tipp: the Cadsoft exe folder have a converter exe, which you can translate from the older versions to the newer versions.
If you've saved your built files once in a newer version you cannot open the files with an older exe version.
The missing details of some components in such files are marginal so you can easy insert a component or even creating it.

this schematic - application - a clock driven decade counter is very old, since the 1980s or before.
It's for kids one of the best to teaching in digital and analog technical as well.
I have many, many... similar "blinky" - schematics.
The "missing link" - your schematic reconstructed. Its just logical that this timer may be used.
The wire from the pin S of the trimmer pot also was missing. With this wire it works correctly.
The application description in the data sheet shows how does the timer work.
The NE555 comes from Signetics (one of the oldest version).
The LM555 comes from National.
The CMOS version from National - LMC555.
The CMOS version from Texas Instruments, TLC555.
Some other manufactures have also build this timer in bipolar or CMOS technology.
The Motorola version of the decade counter 4017 (this is one of the oldest version).
You can use all kinds of this timers as well this (decade) counters.

What can I say? Amazing.
I am completely amazed by your contribution.
I remember, from my university days, using the LM555 in some elementary projects.
I assume these projects were related to the attempt to reproduce the effect presented on the front of the KITT car in the Knight Rider TV series.
Some projects were actually successful, others made good approximations, I think that's the case in our old robotics group.
What started as a simple software scan turned into an excellent lesson in how Eagle works.
For me, as a first time CardSoft Eagle user, what this community has done to help us has been extraordinary.
This reveals the essence of human beings, sharing knowledge.

You are right, this is indeed the circuit to reproduce the KITT effect. What good times.
Where I am at the moment I cannot edit your schematic but I would suggest saving two diodes, D1 and D10, as there will never be a return signal in these two lines.

well, yes. You can saving or not. The diodes make an "serial resistor" about few Ohm's at about 1 volt.
May be then that LEDs may lightning a bit brighter without the diodes.
If you want to saving, just use a wire bridge instead of the two diodes.
