Rotate component in 1.4 is terrible HELP

ninjaninja
ninjaninja over 8 years ago

Hitting the spacebar while moving a component in the PCB editor used to rotate the component from 0 -> 90 -> 180 -> 270 -> 0.  This has been the way ECAD works since I got out of college.  This no longer works in circuit studio.  Spacebar during move shoots the component off screen ussually (heaven's knows where...  seems like it mirrors on the xy axis or something crazy).  Now I need to push into the component attributes and type in the new angle for EVERY COMPONENT in my layout...  This is terrible bug and requires some attention ASAP.

I realize this the "HotFix" thread, but this requires immediate attention.

This bug is making this product terrible in my opinion.  When will we see a fix for this?

Thanks Steve, I found that sometimes it works on a single component (like the first time you export you schematic to the PCB, and if you select the component through the "move" button on the ribbon), but…

Been informed of a workaround via EEVBlog forum, use Shift + Space to rotate, no idea why, but it does seem to work.

    Escalating this to the developers.

Any update on this?  I have 3 boards coming down the pike and this bug is getting in the way for productivity.  An ETA would be very helpful in my resource planning.

    Jerome,

I 'found' this bug yesterday and have your same concerns, a single component works fine - but multiple parts shoot off the screen.  There is a work-around for this although it's ugly - select the parts you want to rotate then go to move components window, I think it's in the Tools window (I found this last night on a different site by doing a search on the problem - so I'm probably getting it wrong, but you'll get the idea), in the window you have the options to rotate the group of selected components and you have to put in the rotation angle manually.  You rotate the parts by clicking on the location you want to be the rotation axis - it's not good....but till they fix it, it works.

    Hope this helps,

    Steve

    Thanks Steve,

I found that sometimes it works on a single component (like the first time you export you schematic to the PCB, and if you select the component through the "move" button on the ribbon), but most of the time and indeterminately so the rotation doesn't work even with a single component.  My normal work flow is to click the component to select it, then drag it around as needed and hit the spacebar to change the angle.

I found the best work around is once I am dragging the component around I hit <tab> brings up component properties, the <tab><tab> gets me to the angle, and key it in.

The best work around for this problem at the moment is to install version 1.3.

Altium knew at time of release that they had broken version 1.4 with this issue.  Until their stone cold "hot fix" sees the light of day, just run with version 1.3 and install 1.4 either beside it or on another machine if you really care about their Eagle import improvements.

Noting I used this importer in anger the other day and am still trying to clean up the mess the importer made, I'm actually going to have to redo it from scratch anyway because the issues it creates with layers mechanical layers all over the place.

An update would be great, I needed to make a few tweaks to an existing board and have been hit by this.  I tried un-installing and re-installing CS but no difference.

So need to go back to v1.3 to be able to have any chance of using CS, where can I get a download of that from?

Just to let everyone know that Altium will be fixing this issue in the next hotfix release of CircuitStudio (exact date yet to be announced). For now the best workaround is as previously stated, use SHIFT SPACEBAR to rotate anti-clockwise.
