removal of an VIA

Hello,

I am new to Circuit studio. have followed al tutos there are on Youtube.

I have created a small schematic and a pcb layout. one thing I can not get working; and can not find it on the tutors; is how to route from bottom to top layer with an via. have no clue at all.

By accident, I place an Via solely. two of them, actually. I can not find a way to remove those two VIA's. they are shown if you hover above the VIA, but can not right click or select them to get them removed. pff.

another thing is that I can not pan the window. there is a kind of automatic pan that drives me crayzy. when routing or moving components the window is all over the place.

Normaly I pan in my CAD and Eagle with the button above my mousewheel. that works great. not here. also, there are no sliders in the screen for left and right movement.

I use Eagle professional for over 6 years now; business wise. So designing is my major business. I need to move to a program that can output 3D and STL files, so thought Circuit studio is a good choice.

hope you can help.

Is there maybe on the support desk someone that can help  me in my native language?

kind regards,

rob

HI Rob. The in-depth technical support is in English unfortunately. An easy way to pan is hold down the right mouse button and then move the mouse, alternatively you can use the mouse wheel with/without SHIFT to pan. Zooming can be performed using CTRL and right mouse button. If you are having difficulty selecting a via to delete it make sure you have not accidentally use the filter to limit your selections, make sure "All Objects" is highlighted.

    Hello Peter,

All works now. I think there was a hickup yesterday with my software. It started with an error while starting up, and later I had an fatal error which I sent via an automated report window that popped up.

One question remaining: how can I prefent the window from auto panning if I have activated, for example, placing a via, or route. After clicking in the ribbon for activation, ( trace or so) the crosshairs are on the mouse pointer. when I move away from the outline of the boards, It starts panning like crazy.

for example, when I lay an trace and move outside the board egge, it autmatically starts panning like madness. the trace keeps on placing outside the board. same with traveling when having a via on the mouse pointer.

where can I switch off this function? I can make a short video to explain better, if needed.

    thanks sofar!

    regards,

    rob

The panning is just the way things work. For example when you are routing you place tracks and the panning helps move around the board. After finishing the last segment of a track you are still in routing mode and can start the next route and so the panning operation is still present. If you want to cancel the command (and end panning) then hit ESC or right click. Once you get used to the idea it does make sense.

If you really dislike the panning then it is possible to disable the feature through File > System Preferences.

    Hello Peter,

Thanks, I have disabled it; what a relief! panning would be handy on the board itself, but not outside the board, I would say. Now I am in control of the driving wheel.

I will continue testing and try some features. I have to move from Eagle to an other environment that can output STL files. My clients want that more and more. Also, 3D presentation gets more and more important.

But for me, most important is support! And as things go right now, I am impressed! Really happy with the fast replies.

I will try to make some components since many of my objects are not in the library. like GSM modules. I will have a look how easy or difficult things go in Circuit Studio.

    kind regards,

    Hello Peter,

Where can I find the 3D step models I can attach to a footprint when beeing in the tab: footprint body/embed 3D generic model?

    or that not enabled:-(

Many library parts may already include the 3D model - you can easily check by going into 3D view mode to see what is there.

    image

To add your own 3D models to library parts use Home | 3D Body, select Generic 3D Model and then click the button to load a STEP model.

    Hello Peter,

that is exactly what I do, but no stp models are there. I searched my PC for stp models, and the only ones I could find are in the GSM directory. ( and mine I made myself in my CAD program)

So I think I dont have them.

You don't get separate STEP files provided. They will either be integrated into library components or you design your own.

    hello Peter,

I imported a small Eagle design in Circuit studio. worked without a glitch. I tried to change components so the 3d representation would be correct. Changing a resistor with one in the schematic to a right footprint that is 3D worked. But can not find how to update that for the PCB. How to do that?

    Found this guide: https://www.altium.com/eagle-switch/circuitstudio/pdf/Moving%20to%20CircuitStudio%20from%20EAGLE.pdf

in there it is mentioned that one can do that in the Tools/ Pcblinks/ component links. but probably a different version I guess. since I cant see it it 1.5

Do you know if thre are classes or handson trainings in the Netherlands?

    or a dutch user group?

    regards,

    rob

Hi Rob. If you have managed to update your library footprint with the 3D model then you can update your PCB design by making sure the PCB document is open and then from the library editor use Home | Update PCB With Current Footprint.
