Disabling the snap function that should not exist

That i can find there is no "snap" setting for the PCB layout environment. And yet trying to do any editing is more than the usual nightmare!!!! If I want to move something it is impossible to either "grip" it in the first place or it tries to force me to place things where i do not want them to go. To get a trace to move away from a collision I have caused by moving a component i hve to drag the trace in the opposite direction to the one it will flip in!!!! CRAZY.

Can I disable this pointless and time wasting behaviour? or is this another "missing feature" also known as a bug???

There is a snap function that you can change.  In the Home tab, there is an area called 'Grids and Units'.  Change your snap grid spacing here.  Select 'Properties' and you can adjust snap in the X and Y directions individually if you wish.

If you go to the File tab, select 'System Preferences' clear down at the bottom of the menu.  Under PCB Editor, select 'Interactive Routing'.  With this you can adjust the way that the PCB will route.

Other than these two things, I don't know what else to say.  Other than it not being Altium, I rather enjoy using CS.  I can quickly turn out PCBs with no errors.  But I still prefer Altium.

Yes there is a grid setting but that has nothing to do with this. There are random snap conditions that jump several "snaps" of the grid. Trying to edit traces is a joke. As an example the "remove loops" does not work in trace edit and various strange entrails are left in editing. Yes it's not AD and based on this being a dumbed down version of AD I will never touch AD as clearly it is over priced.

Sounds like you might have "Snap to Object Hotspots" enabled.

Home tab > Board Options > uncheck "Snap to Object Hotspots"

THANK YOU! Yes indeed that might be the cause. Such a clever thing to have enabled by default. An option that stops you from moving a trace off a pad it has nothing to do with because the program wants to snap to the centre of the pad......... oh well, it is after all made in china.....

There is a minimum amount of competence required to use any PCB-EDA tool...

Hotspot-snap is a common and useful feature that most PCB designers make use of.
