Supplier links scam

Sparkylabs

I have by default installed the farnell group supplier extention and manually added the RS one. But when I am adding a supplier link to a part the RS one never pops up. I just looked for a capacitor only sold by RS, nothing came up from RS but like on the farnell website a supposed match from farnell came up that is not what I asked for being 6800uF 6.3V but 2200uF 10V which is completely different and incompatible with the design.

Could element 14 take the damn sales people out and replace them with engineers ? I will no longer be using the supplier links as they are clearly a waste of time and bordering on a scam. I will instead add my own BOM fields and by the way my first choice will be RS because their website is faster than the 486 server farnell is running on!

I added many supplier links and they all work for me. Maybe something is wrong with the install?

No idea, there are no instructions and the RS plugin seems to be installed as is the farnell one, the only difference is that farnell sell CS. to add insult to injury farnell are trying to sell more stuff by offering equivalent parts where they don't have one except they are getting it seriously wrong. I have already seen a case where a subcontractor got it wrong because a supplier website offered a "compatible" part.

Of course it could be the opposite way round, as RS would prefer you to use DesignSpark.

I have noticed that when there are no RS results there is an error with the search for it so perhaps its a bit finicky on the protocol or  characters in the search string

What I find annoying is that there is only the choice of Germany or France - no UK one.

Actually, I've just tried searching for 'smd resistor 100k' on RS's own website and all it came up with was 6 full reels - absolutely useless!

That's why you don't do a text search for components, you use the supplied filters, which give all the results you were expecting: http://uk.rs-online.com/web/c/passive-components/fixed-resistors/surface-mount-fixed-resistors/?applied-dimensions=4293314596

Hello Simon, supplier search currently has a small issue, as you've noticed. Recently several sites have changed their data format making it difficult for CircuitStudio to scan their parts. In the mean time we suggest to use the Octopart BOM tool. Its free and works great! all you need to do is upload a csv file. We know of this issue and plan on resolving it.
