Digi-Key supplier links not working

e14softwareuk
e14softwareuk over 6 years ago

Just to let everyone know that it appears Digi-Key supplier links have stopped working with CircuitStudio, presumably due to a change at Digi-Key because there hasn't been an update to CS that I know about. I'll post a workaround/fix if one becomes available. Of course these are the element14 forums so I should really suggest using Farnell/Newark as your supplier image.

Update -- it seems the Digi-Key API used by CircuitStudio has been retired and won't be coming back. Please post below if you have been affected to give Altium some indication of the urgency with which a new software release will be required.

What would make this bug way more bearable is if I could use the cached Digi-Key data from my design... but alas it looks like all the functionality in that corner of the BOM configuration window is not working.

Here is a video showing what I mean:

e14softwareuk why can't I select a supplier from this drop-down and/or why is the "use cached pricing data in parameters if offline" option greyed out?

Have you seen this on the Digi-Key site?

    https://forum.digikey.com/t/digi-key-link-in-altium-circuit-studio-not-working/2622

It might be best to post an issue with the Digi-Key site on the Digi-Key site.

For all intents and purposes, Peter Barnard is Altium (or at least represents us CircuitStudio customers to Altium's support staff).  I feel like they listen to him more than I.

Hi Tom - I try my best to help wherever I can. The Digi-Key link is a good one and gives us more insight into what has happened. I would suggest anyone who uses Digi-Key posts here so that we have some idea of the impact. The more users affected the more likely Altium are to push out an update to fix the issue. Although there are many thousands of users of CircuitStudio if it only looks like half a dozen users are affected then Altium might decide an update is not that urgent image.

Peter, I'll post my gripes in the Digi-Key forum as well, hopefully it will help.

What about the issue I posted the above video about?  Is this a separate unrelated bug?  Is offline supplier data caching known to not work independently of this Digi-Key issue?

The caching is something I've never looked into so cannot confirm how well it works, something I will have to look into.

It actually looks like its kind of working for me.

A few days ago I copied my whole project to a new directory and renamed it and the files in it (about to do layout work for a major board revision and wanted snapshot of current board for future reference)

Seems like that broke cached supplier data, because when I open the original files they still have the supplier options shown in the BOM configuration dialogue.

Is there a better way to save a backup/snapshot of a project other than copying the whole project in windows file manager and then opening the project in CircuitStudio and using Storage Manager to rename everything?  Because that's what I did and it broke cached supplier data.

Hi Tom. Typically I use windows file manager to copy the folder and that's it. Not sure how well this preserves all other information but for what I need it certainly copies across the sch and pcb files to edit.
