10BASE-T1L, PoDL, Single Pair Ethernet

Hello

I am implementing Power over Data Line in my 10BASE-T1L project. I checked the Würth Electronics webinar video on YouTube "Single Pair Ethernet filter design for industry". Here, a differential mode inductor is used to inject/takeout DC power on the line. What should be the minimum value of coupled inductor (U3 & U4) for class power (IEEE802.3cg class 10-12)? This might be quite a simple question, but I am very new to circuit design.

    I don't know the answer but perhaps 20 uH as a minimum is a reasonable first guess start for your tests. It would provide 1k impedance, I don't know if that's enough, but seems a good starting point to…

    Hi Nicola,

    Thank you for the quick response. I am also using a 47uH inductor from WE similar to the one you have suggested. The following two figures depict my test set-up and PoDL schematic. I am using Analog Device EVAL-ADIN1110EBZ board which has 10BASE-T1L (ADIN1110 chip).

    differential mode inductor(L1): WE-744871470

    Transformer: WE-74930120

    Problem:

    The ethernet link is always down (LINK_DOWN) when the device is powered by PoDL. It only works if at the beginning device is powered up from another power source (PoDL is disconnected, at least GND), bring the LINK UP, then switched it to PoDL. It will continue to work until there is no change in the link status i.e. no reset.

    I am having this problem for quite long time. Any kind of help would be appreciated.

    Hi Suresh,

    to help you could you send us a detailed picture of your construction? Because the Eval board used by you is originally equipped with other components. The best would be a picture from TOP and one from BOTTOM of the board.

    Hi Nicola,

    I am using this evaluation board from Analog Device.

    I figured out the problem. The problem was the capacitive coupling as Eval-board already has capacitive coupling. I also added them to my prototype.
