PCB Holders

dougw

I've been doing some reorganizing and noticed I have a collection of PCB holders. I decided to do a quick post on them to spark some discussion around what constitutes a good PCB holder.

This video is a brief overview of the holders I have and how I use them.

What do you use to hold PCBs and what do you think is a good holder system?

It is a genius material, so many uses. It comes in a sheet form, between waxed paper. The first time it is used, it just needs to be stretched a bit, and it becomes sticky (without leaving any residue…

Seriously, blu-tack is the way to go here as they don't move at all once stuck down - the only thing to be aware of is avoiding getting blu-tack stuck in any empty holes! I picked that tip up from Shabaz…

They do for all sorts of things apart from holding boards.

Recently for holding a coil fo wire for winding machine, as a weight, and today for protecting the bench from test loads.

My laser driver board is putting about 12W into each resistor. I'm quite please with the loss in the switchers, total system input power = 39.3W, output into loads 36.22W = 92% efficiency which includes the power used by the small supervisor processor (about 287mW).

Hottest reading on board is about 39C, about 17 above ambient.

BTW - I did use Blu-tack to hold the connectors while soldering them in !

    Nice-looking board!

Great to see how such vices are used for organising of work. Otherwise takes just a couple of boards and very few wires/probes strung between them to waste untold time repeatedly pausing and troubleshooting!
