Hello Pi celebrators!

 

Pi Day is coming, and we're celebrating all week. This may be the best Pi Party ever given the recent arrival of the Pi 2. #iluvPi2.

  • I am really excited with the release of the new Pi2. I can't wait for mine to come in the mail, so I can start playing!

  • I am a member of a local Toastmasters club, and I recently competed in the International Speech Contest at the club and area levels. I consider my speech the start of my Pi Day celebrations.

     

    My speech was entitled "Raspberry Pi Day", and it was my attempt to persuade the audience to let their children/students (or themselves if they were curious) create computer games using Scratch or Python on Pi Day. The premise was that students today don't see how math can help them "in the real world", and that programming can put those math skills they are learning to practical use. And learning can be fun!

     

    I actually received feedback from audience members that never heard about the Raspberry Pi, but wanted to check it out. So even though I didn't place, I consider my primary goal a success. As a side note, I'm considering filming and uploading the speech to YouTube when I get a chance this week.

    I actually broke down and purchased the new PI 2 camera kit.

    I decided that with the fourth iteration that they would have the software tuned and the hardware adjusted for reliable operation.

     

    I was always on board with the idea and I have been impressed with the support effort that has evolved around the world to make it work.

    It reminds me a lot of the early days of computers when there were few tools, but lots of people willing to share knowledge and information so that all could better explore these great tools.

     

    Hopefully I can get my kit up and running soon.  I am really intrigued by the high video frame rate capability.
