MathWorks recently ran a hardware challenge, where in users were asked to submit a project in which they programmed hardware boards using MATLAB or Simulink. The grand prize for this challenge was 1000 USD and we received over 60 submissions for this challenge. Here is a link to the announcement page where you can read about the top 3 prize winners and also see their videos.

The announcement page also has a link to all the submissions image for those who are interested in seeing the rest of the videos.

Thank You MG. I am Good. I HAVE a Valid Paid Student Copy of Matlab/Simulink. Was posting about the www.coursera.org Matlab course, so others can possibly take advantage of it when it is offered again. The course is titled "Computer Programming with Matlab". originating from Vanderbilt University. Instructors are Fitzpatrick & Ledeczi. My session started 25JUL16 and runs for 9 weeks. If you go for NO Certification, the Course is FREE. They (coursera.org) will run it again. They will give course registrants a 3(?)month License to MathLab. Like I said, I am Good. Just putting info out there for people that might want to cultivate an interest in Mathlab. Especially b/c Matlab/simulink incorporates RaspPi and Arduino.

I am not sure if the specific course that you are talking about gives access to MATLAB or not. But my guess would be - if it were a paid course they would definitely give you access to software you need to use in the class (from personal experience with a different course) and if it were a free course they might give you a trial version of MATLAB or something. If you create an account with MathWorks, you can get a free trial of the product for 1 month - https://www.mathworks.com/programs/trials/trial_request.html?s_iid=htb_trial_gtwy_ar .

Thx MG for the Link about MatLab/Simulink.. I have a student copy of Matlab/simulink and various RaspPi's & Arduino Variants. But I am an 65yr-old (US Patent Atty), so I am proceeding slowly. To build-up slowly, I have been taking MOOC's about the Subject matter. I am taking several MOOC's on RaspPi on udemy.com (a $$ MOOC site, but $$ is reasonable). Then there is a MOOC on Matlab Programming at coursera.edu. People w/o their own copy will get access to an Online version for period of 3 months(?)
