Hi, my name is Jason. I am 14 years old and live in Oklahoma. I use my raspberry pi for a program I am currently writing that uses a U.S.B webcam and tracking technology to follow the motion of objects such as my hand and then have it be a mouse to control a screen. As of now, I am fairly new to programing so my code is slow and intensive on the Pi. Although it works, it is slow and not always reliable. My revision in code is making it faster but more intense on the system itself. With the new 512 megabyte Pi, I could make my program faster and more respondent.
The program works by taking a shot of the room and then any objects that are different then the shot itself will show.
I have learned to program because of the pi, and its easy to use O.S of Linux and Python 2.7 and 3.2 and 3.3. The small pocket sized computer is powerful and affordable. If I had the 512 megabyte I could do more. I am thinking of writing programs that could improve the lives of people. Such as taking the temperature and changing it to your own liking. Or take games and port them to the Pi. There are so many things that it offers.
Some of the things that I have done with the Pi as I got it was:
Learn to program
Use a GPIO
I’ve learned to make circuits controlled with GPIO
Write small games and calculators.
Etc.
The possibilities are endless with these computers. They really teach computer science to people my age. People at school play their “Call of Duty” or whatever. But that doesn’t teach you anything really.
