The Plytop Shell

Hello, I've been a long time watcher of Ben's show. I thought this community might have interest in the project I've been working on for the last 2 years.

It's a laser cut 'laptop' shell that has room for a Raspberry Pi and power bank. The designs are open source and available on my site at https://www.tinkerloon.com/projects/plytop.

There's a couple of variants of the top, one that's just an empty top, so you can screw any LCD monstrosity you can find to it, and one especially designed for a Waveshare monitor. (pictured above)

The assembly instructions, videos, and materials list are all up on the site as well. You will need obviously need access to a laser cutter to put it all together.

It's a pretty versatile little thing, it uses zip ties to hold down components, so you can put anything that fits in there and get it out easily. Good for swapping SBCs in and out.

If you flip the top around and add a mouse, it's like a really bad desktop.

Here's the living hinge variant I just put up on the site yesterday - https://www.tinkerloon.com

More difficult to assemble, but has the benefit of looking cool. I still prefer the original design, but people love a living hinge.

Very interesting. With it being wood you could easily adapt it to allow usb port access to the outside and even a hub of some type in the keyboard area flushmounted!
