    I already have a Raspberry Pi Zero; I tried desktop on it, but Zero doesn't have processing power, which is why I need a Raspberry Pi 5.

    I would probably set this up as a server to receive weather information, and display it on a smart mirror. It would get weather info from the home built station in my backyard.

    This project needs some intelligence. It's now a functional remote controlled rover, but I'd like to take the project further. I think the RP 5 could give this project the intelligence it needs, to go further.

    I would use it in building my DIY alternative to a Keyence inspection microscope.  This is a project I have been working on for a few months now with a RPI 3 B.  For this project the Pi 5 would make a huge difference both in processing power and in its natural capabilities of natively supporting two separate camera modules simultaneously.

    My goal with using the dual cameras is to have one wide angle high resolution camera in the top to view everything in the field to allow selecting areas to focus on.  The second camera (the one actually to be used for inspection) will be used with a microscope zoom lens for mosaic photography and close inspection of the selected areas.  This lens will have a servo motor controlling a linear actuator to adjust the focal distance of the lens from the sensor.  I am also planning on attaching a swiveling angled mirror to the zoom lens so that is able to take angled/side pictures of parts to allow closer inspection of under/side of parts (such as the edges of the underside of a QFN footprint part)

    I am someone who wants to make other people’s lives better. At the moment, I’m working on starting a project that helps people manage their impact on the planet in terms of CO2 etc. I want to be able to make a physical object for this project as well.

    My idea is that the Pi could be used to collect physical data like Air Quality, water and energy use levels in someone’s home. It could act as a ‘Hub’ for all of their things that impact the environment like consuming food and going shopping. Additionally, they could also use it as a smart speaker which could provide real-time statistics and a hub for switching on and off household objects like lightbulbs and air conditioners by incorporating Open-Source projects like HomeBridge.

    After the data is collected, it will then be passed through an algorithm (still thinking about how that’s going to work) which could give recommendations to help achieve the ultimate goal - NET ZERO.

    I know that this is a huge project, but if everyone works together and supports it, this could definitely turn into a reality. :) Thanks!

    Why the Pi 5 would be so cool:

    1. The Raspberry Pi 5 would be ideal as it has faster transfer speeds (USB3.0) for linking new sensors and household tools and items.

    2. The Raspberry Pi 5 includes WiFi 6 which allows it to better provide online services like port forwarded digital dashboards and smart assistants.
