Cirrus 'No such device' after reboot

I have a RPi2 and a Cirrus Logic Audio Card. For the installation I used Method A: Complete image install from the Cirrus Logic Audio Card User Documentation. When finished the card was recognized and I could control audio playback and record by using the scripts.

After rebooting the RPi the card is no longer recognized: aplay -l doesn't show it and when using a script I get: amixer: Control hw:sndrpiwsp open error: No such device

The config.txt is showing dtoverlay=rpi-cirrus-wm5102-overlay and there is a rpi-cirrus-wm5102-overlay.dtb in the overlays folder.

I'm a RPi user beginner and need an advice how to figure this out.

Thanks a lot,

Martin

It's impossible to tell what the problem is without a lot more information and troubleshooting.  BUT, one of the more common causes of this is if you ran:

    apt-get update
    apt-get upgrade

edit - OK - this message reply system is messed up.

If you did the upgrade after the card was working it would then stop working after a reboot.  It you really need to upgrade this might prevent this problem:

    sudo apt-mark hold raspberrypi-bootloader

hello spambake, thanks a lot for your answer.

You are right: I should have explicitely mention that I did a clean install of the downloaded cirrus_logic_audio_card_all_pi_versions.img and after the next reboot I got the error.

And you are also right: I did the apt-get update and upgrade thing just after installing the image. So this was the mistake I did.

So now after a new installation of the image and without the update/upgrade the cirrus card is still recognized after reboot.

    Thanks very much.

I also tried the method explained in the thread

Driver fixes and updates to kernel 3.18.16 and 4.0.5

with a new installed Raspbian Jessie using the http://www.horus.com/~hias/tmp/cirrus/cirrus-linux-4.1.6.tgz and doing the modifications in config.txt  and raspi-blacklist.conf like discribed in the thread and it is also working fine.

Thank you all for your great work here.

    Martin
