RaspberryPi.org gone quiet - any news?

Seems they're happy leaving everyone in the dark. Bodes well for the future.

From what i was told earlier the website is still getting hammered. The release day news was on TV & Radio from Australia to India to .... so they can't turn the forums back on until it dies down a bit but they are using the downtime to do some maint. and rewriting of the FAQ (not that anyone reads it) etc.

I think they are still down the pub, surveying the smoldering ruins of what used to be their server ?

I don't know anything specific, but there was talk of switching to a new forum that would be able to carry the load.  Maybe they're getting that set up now because they don't think the old forum will ever be able to handle the traffic.  The plan is to bring back the original forum read/only to preserve the knowledge base.

Personally I think most of the raspberrypi.org traffic is existing users seeing if the forum is back up and if it were to come back the traffic would go away.  At least I only check a few times a day.  There may be well-intentioned enthusiasts with automatic scripts that are making the traffic look a lot worse than it really would be.

It may have been a botched launch but we could all see that coming it is just the fact that they have disappeared completely since 6pm 29th.

Fine if they need a rest but not even bothering to tweet or put on there site as or if we will be hearing from them is just inexcusable.

I have been following the raspberry Pi for months and loved the fact they were so open, so to completely shut everyone off once it launches will anger many people and they will

justifiably get a roasting if they surface again.

Luckily I got my order in quickly thanks to Farnell and am expecting delivery 12/3 so I am not bitter because I didn't get one.

Why not put that on there home page/one tweet then? The forum is not linkable so how do they know the traffic is slowing down?

It's clear that this is way beyond there abilities. No offense but they are clearly better hardware designers

than CEO's. There were so many mistakes made it makes me worry they are not up to the task long term. And

the errors continue. I'm a BIG pi fan but you have to call a spade a spade. They mucked it up and they are still

mucking it up. The longer the silence and lack of communication goes on the worse it's going to be when the

forum goes live. I suspect they want to let the anger die down but I can tell you it's only going to grow. You have

to face the music and answer to the masses, just get it over with.

And to the people saying it's because the server is going to get hammered I say that's a total crock, they can cheaply purhase

gb' s of bandwith and many servers for very little cash. If cash is that tight then there is a whole new set of problems. If they

don't know they can do that then that's another set of problems. All in all this has been very disconcerting as a pi fan.
