Small monitor options for R-Pi

So, I know many people will want to hook the R-Pi up to a 50-inch HDTV, but some of us will want to keep it small (such as for a CarPC). I am not thinking about touchscreen capability, simply small LCD displays. So, there are $1000 5" to 8" LCDs meant for digital photography, but that is nuts. So, I found that small portable LCD TVs should be the way to go. The cheap Coby and Axion 7" LCD TVs have RCA/composite video input jack, and luckily the R-Pi also has an RCA/composite video output jack!  They are about $50 to $60.

A cheaper option may be a portable DVD player - I think some of these come with an AV input.

That was my first idea, and you could gut the dvd player part to put the raspberry pi in there as well. But the one I have does not have av in. I am still thinking about buying one that does. It would be pretty cool  form factor wise. But I can not find a good deal on one that I know had av inputs.

Well I have done something Quick and easy to get my son's broken DVD player over to a media center.

I Started with a 2 screen RCA DVD Player.  The DVD Player basically died, but the spare screen works fine

So I gutted the DVD player and removed the screen form that body.  My big problem was room for the spare screens circuit board so I took the easy way out and decided to keep them separate.

Using a dremel I cut off the Composite Out and power jack off the Board,  and soldered a set of Components to it and a 12v car jack I had laying around to the power jack on the board.  I then plugged in a usb power plug for the pi.   Really I was going on vacation and needed something quick.  My next plan is to move all this to an actual enclosure (thinking an 1160 pelican case, where I’ll add a wall plate with RCA, HDMI, USB, and Ethernet.

and thanks to a cheep 3 ring binder I have a cover for it, you can also see where I cut out a section for usb and ethernet

Really for what it is, the image isn't bad.  For watching cartoons in a car ride I'd say its really good.  But I would not even try to read smaller text on the screen, unless you want to provide your self with a head ache.  I'll grab some pictures of the home screen of raspbmc, and playing a movie as well.
