Adafruit planning “Pi Plates” ala Arduino shields

Exciting post today from one of my favorite companies, Adafruit Industries:

A lot of folks are asking what and if we’re going to do with the Raspberry Pi. Since today is Pi day we can share some of our plans and experiments – we have a series “Pi Plates” for Raspberry Pi - “Shields” for the Raspberry Pi. Right now no one has shipping hardware so like everyone else we are waiting to get the read hardware to test our designs. We have a few ready to go based on the information out there and will have more later (and updated) once we test.

I also plan to design a Raspberry Pi shield, convenient to the use of GPIO interfaces, and connect arduino well, PCB basic finished, but still need to wait for a long time to production, because I didn't get a Raspberry Pi yet

Hi Qing,

Nice looking board. I'm excited to see the interesting daughter boards people have in the works. Of course, I think everyone is pretty much in the same boat waiting for the supply of Raspberry Pi's to start flowing.

Nice looking board. I'm excited to see the interesting daughter boards people have in the works. Of course, I think everyone is pretty much in the same boat waiting for the supply of Raspberry Pi's to start flowing.

I don't think RasPi has ever published BOMs. However, you can get the schematics of the Compute Module and derive the BOM from there: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/hardware/computemodule/schematics.md

However, before you put in any work be sure you can obtain BCM2835 chips, or you'll end up like ODROID-W. You can't just order them from a major distributor. I hear that Broadcom only wants to deal people who are going to order zillions of them.

Also, RasPi is not open-source hardware so you don't have permission to copy or modify their designs. You also have to be careful about RasPi trademarks.
