Adafruit planning “Pi Plates” ala Arduino shields

fustini
fustini over 13 years ago

Exciting post today from one of my favorite companies, Adafruit Industries:

Adafruit experimenting with “Pi Plates” for Raspberry Pi - “Shields” for the Raspberry Pi

http://www.adafruit.com/blog/2012/03/14/adafruit-experimenting-with-pi-plates-for-raspberry_pi-shields-for-the-raspberry-pi/

A lot of folks are asking what and if we’re going to do with the Raspberry Pi. Since today is Pi day we can share some of our plans and experiments – we have a series “Pi Plates” for Raspberry Pi - “Shields” for the Raspberry Pi. Right now no one has shipping hardware so like everyone else we are waiting to get the read hardware to test our designs. We have a few ready to go based on the information out there and will have more later (and updated) once we test.

Cheers,

Drew

I also plan to design a Raspberry Pi shield, convenient to the use of GPIO interfaces, and  connect arduino well, PCB basic finished, but still need to wait for a long time to production, because I didn't get a Raspberry Pi yet

    P1: connect Raspberry Pi    P2/P3: 2*SPI   P4:I2C  J1:UART(RS232)  P10-P13:GPIO(protected by opticalcoupler)  other P:GPIO

    Hi Qing,

Nice looking board.  I'm excited to see the interesting daughter boards people have in the works.  Of course, I think everyone is pretty much in the same boat waiting for the supply of Raspberry Pi's to start flowing.

    Cheers,

    Drew

    Also seen this :

    http://shop.ciseco.co.uk/slice-of-pi/

Which I have pre-ordered. No doubt the first of many add-ins coming over the next few months.

Pretty good price too, at least for UK based shoppers.

Very nice - I like the XBee header.

Original I also plans to add XBee header, but consider  Raspberry Pi have usb interface and operation  the Linux OS.Now,wireless equipment most have usb interface, so I remove the XBee header

Fans of Adafruit Industries and Ladyada might be interested in this bit in yesterday's New York Times showing the correlation between desk clutter and creativity: There’s a Method to My Desk’s Madness.

There's a bit where she identifies her "favorite object" as her oscilloscope: "You use it to measure electrical signals."  I suspect Ladyada said a lot more about what a 'scope does, but that's the part the interviewer understood and had room for in the article.  IMO saying "you use it to measure electrical signals" is kind of like saying that you use an Indy 500 racer "to get from one place to another".  A 'sillyscope is a freaking time machine, for crying out loud.  You use it to observe things you cannot sense, that take place in lengths of time orders of magnitude smaller that what your brain can process directly.  Does that help, Mr. Lewine?

Just to give Mr Lewine the benefit of the doubt, there might have been a sub-editor betwixt the writer and the final published text.

If a cluttered desk is a sign of creativity, I must be *way* more creative that I think I am....

What about a cluttered room, what does that say :-)

Limor might have said far more about her sillyscope, but perhaps she was just being mindful of the demographic of the NYT - she is a businesswoman after all and not just_a_geek! Adafruit's documentation does tend to have a high plainspeek / jargon ratio too (which is a very good thing imo).
