Im living in Germany and today ive got an email telling me that i can preorder the Raspberry Pi now, I followed the link and filled everything out, but after i clicked on submit ive been redirected to a site with exporteurs for Element 14 and i couldnt find Germany under the listed countries. Did i preorder now or didnt i?

I have lots of countries to choose from in the dropdown list. When i choose i.e. Hong Kong, i could order it, but thats obviously no use for me, since i'm in germany.... image

For me, there were four odd things about the preorder process resulting from the email received from Farnell:

    • One is that the link redirected to the export.farnell.com site, which was a little wierd since I'm in the UK already and hence there is no export necessary.  I think this is merely the effect of consolidation though, ie. make all Rpi preorders be  handled by a single site.
    • Another oddity is that after clicking the Submit Order button, it directed me to the list of countries.  Well that made no sense at all because UK doesn't figure in that list, since there is no export from UK to UK.  Since there was no "UK" to click, I just clicked Back, which did indeed take me back.  (Yay, unlike so many clueless webbies out there, Farnell's web devs respect the Back button and don't reset the forms -- well done. :-)
    • Since I was back at the details screen where I'd been before, the only thing I  could do now was to click Submit Order again.  Amazingly, this time it worked, no pointless redirect to the export countries screen.
    • And finally, not an oddity but not what I expected:  it provided no opportunity to use my non-trade Farnell account login, which would have been preferable since my Rpi order would then figure in my order history.  It's not a problem, but would have been useful.

So, definitely some odd behaviour in the preordering, but it got there in the end.

    Morgaine.

    The Same Happened to me,

Farnell say they do not charge your card until dispatch.

I tried ordering again later and instead of taking me to the list of countries I was taken to a confirmation page and a confirmation email was sent.

My advice would be just try again because that worked for me and I just think that this problem is just a technical glitch and nothing has been ordered

So after pre-ordering and filling in my details, I got the "When stock is allocated to your order, we will send you a full order confirmation including prices, availability and expected delivery date." message.

Anyone knows how long it takes before you receive that confirmation?

I've been waiting for a week now, and it sounds odd that they're basically holding onto my credit card details that long before the actual order.

Hawkb, I think it may be a while, as stock is a little thin on the ground at the moment. From what I have read (or at least think I have read) there is only about 2000 RasPi's in the UK at the moment. Once certification is passed then these get distributed evenly between RS and Farnell (who now presumably have a backorder list stretching to the moon) and the other 8,000 get bought over (once network connectors are replaced) and as long as Farnell et al have managed to source a million new network jacks, they can push the button and get these things made in decent volumes (=lots).

Happy to be corrected on any point above. I ordered mine by phone on 29th April and I have got order confirmation etc from Farnell, but my order status is still at processing and has been for weeks. I guess until they actually know what is happening regarding certification, they are unable to proceed.

Is that the full order confirmation with prices and availability you received, or the small pre-order confirmation with your order number?

I've got no idea about my order status, is it something you can see somewhere or is it 'processing' until you get the full order confirmation?

It was a full order confirmation, with price and carriage etc, but of course no expected delivery date.

The order status is visible to me when I log into the Farnell site under my account, but clicking deeper into the order still doesn't give me an expected ship date, just that the status is processing. I'm not complaining at Farnell as I have called them a couple of times and on both occasions the people have been friendly and helpful and I'm sure they must be sick of hearing about RaspberryPi when before the 29th Feb they probably just thought it was a type of dessert :-)

Mmh, that's odd. I don't have an account at Farnell, I was able to order like that.

I also didn't get a full order confirmation.

Maybe I should try contacting them and see what they can tell me.
