Will the iphone 4 power adapter work?
Will the iphone 4 power adapter work?
Yes, iPhone power adapter should work fine. I believe the genuine Apple one is rated at 1A. If you have something other than the official Apple one, get out your microscope and check the rating label on it.
While we are here, it's worth mentioning that you should probably be a bit careful with the USB cable you use. I have found that some micro USB cables are inadequate for charging phones (although they are fine for data transfer), so I would expect them to be inadequate for powering the Rpi. The problem cables have been very cheap ones, or thin flat ones on a winding extender gizmo. Blackberry micro USB cables can be found fairly cheaply on an auction site near you, and I've found them to be very good.
Following on from my previous comment, the same goes for USB extension cables. I've found that cheap ones are no good for powering/charging devices. So for powering the Rpi I would recommend sticking to USB cables and extensions from one of the well-known cable or phone manufacturers (Belkin, Molex, HTC, Motorola, Samsung, Blackberry, Sony etc.).
You are correct. I have found that recently to my peril!
I bought one of these. (well I got the european version):
We tested the cable, and it is good enough for the RPI. (I did pay about $13, and not the $2 that is quoted as the best price there).
