You didn't miss much.  Eben was asked about progress on

compliance testing, but said an answer would come later.

So not much in the way of new information.

I'm right there with you Ray.  I tried for over an hour and the only thing I got was the Element14 server was down.

Very disappointing.  I hope the end product - if I ever do get to see it, is better than the experience leading up to receiving it!

PS - Farnell - If you're going to hold a webinar - make sure you have the bandwith, and systems to support the load!

They recorded the webinar and have assured everyone it will be available on element14 soon.

I joined late and found the http://www.element14.com/community/groups/raspberry-pi site was "Site Undergoing Maintenance" but luckily saw the tweet from @element14 that pointed to here.  I then got in ok.

They are working hard on the compliance.  Ebon joined from Cardiff instead of Cambridge.

I got in right when they said, "Well that wraps it up thanks for joining"

I registered for it about a week ago, and logged in about 15 minutes beforehand.

It was my first ever webinar, and despite my low broadband connection speed of about 1 Mb/s, I have to say that I was very impressed with the quality of the presentation.

The slides were clearly displayed, there was a small (webcam size) live video (of Eben) running throughout, and also a live Q & A sesion, where some questions were being answered in 'real time'... and the sound was very clear.

Apparently they had about 2.800 prior registrations, but I have no idea (yet) as to how many actually attended, although I am sure we will be told in due course.

Well done Element 14, Eben, and all the others who were involved.

As has already been mentioned, Eben was actually still in Cardiff at the time, and not back in Cambridge as had originally been planned.

Edit: I was using Google Chrome running under Windows 7.

Given that Raspberry Pi is an open-source beastie, I'd suggest a more open webinar system perhaps. I don't have anything in particular in mind. My Linux browsers complained about the Java (sending me to Oracle to resolve the issue), and complained about the audio.  Oracle Java has licensing issues, and my audio works fine over the web with just about everything else I've tried...

I tried countless times (Linux with Firefox, and then with Chrome) without any success...    All I saw was an 'info' window in the java app, and myself showing up as the only attendee!     It would appear that maybe the webinar only worked with windows???    Oh, the irony..

Rather questionable advice given as an answer at 7:39 AM though:

X11 should never be run as root.  It creates too large an attack surface, and people will regret it the first time that they make a mistake like "rm -rf / tmp/foo" (superfluous space).  Always run X as your non-root user, protect partially sensitive things with group privileges, and sudo only the occasional special command that absolutely must run as root.

Glad it worked for you David. Maybe I was unlucky or plain dumb. But I was really disappointed.

Perhaps I'll have better luck next time. Looking forward to the video on here now soon anyway.
