More mobility

In terms of monitors, i just had a thought. Has anyone been able to find a monitor, thats around the size of a mobile phone? It just means you could carry the screen in one pocket, and the RPi in the other, and its a very easily mobile computer for while you're on the go.

Maybe its a good business idea for someone to create something like a phone, with a mouse, keyboard and screen all in a small size (no bigger than an Iphone), to enable use of the RPi in any location you want it?

Some people are focusing so heavily on the 'Portable media center' idea that they don't see the full potential. the RPi company are of course focusing on just the RPi for now, so its up to the community to create the best designs.

Edited from http://www.modmypi.com/products.php, this could be another possibility - putting the keyboard, monitor and mouse onto the case itself. The keyboard area would need extending, but I'm pretty sure some of you big computer brainiacs could do this.

And it wouldn't be trying to replace the mobile phone, or anything like that, because as soon as you got home, you could just (once again, I'm not sure how) disable the functions on the case, and plug it into your monitor, keyboard and mouse at home. Opinions please?

Oh, and sorry that was made on paint, my Photoshop has stopped working. Really, i am so sorry. It makes me want to cry when i use paint.

Thanks a lot for reading,

Danny

    Hmmm.

Looks like a blackberry with ethernet and USB Host , but without GPRS/3G.

    http://openpandora.org/   (400-500 $) - could be seen as a  laptop  ?

    http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Main_Page     (~ 700 $) - build your own smartphone !

    http://www.ubuntu.com/devices/android ( ~ 150 $) - use your existing smarphone !

http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/US-EN/Consumer-Product-and-Services/Mobile+Phone+Accessories/Docking-Stations/Atrix-Laptop-Dock-US-EN  (Well , it is expensive , but comes close to your solution ?)

Note that many tablets have a USB Host - and USB is a mighty thing.

Your Solution : My Estimate  ~ 160 $ and lots of time and soldering.

If you are a company , you might want make profit : 250 $ ?

I'm sceptical if this is viable , but it IS agreat idea (especially if it has a rechargable battery) !

Yeah, i suppose, but it sustains all the benefits of the RPi; you can still go home, and use it as a desktop computer, but then when you are on the move, you can use it for all its offline uses too.

It is like merging the RPi with a smartphone, so you are right, it does look like a blackberry. But that was just a general idea, I'm 16, and a geek, not a designer - I'm just throwing the idea out there for the possibility for what could be the latest advancement on a laptop, which is a laptop that fits in your pocket.

If you want to do this concept very cheaply, it could be well under $100 (parts- not including labor). The main factor is how fancy you want the LCD screen. At the low end, a Nokia 5110 style 84x48 pixel LCD module is $10 in unit quantity, and uses only 3 digital I/O lines.  For $60 you can get a 2.8" 240x320, 18-bit color touchscreen. See for example: http://www.adafruit.com/category/63

I can second the Atrix lapdock.  It look stunning and has been working well for me.  If you have a "fresher" Pi with no F1/F2 polyfuses, then you don't even need to do any USB cable modifications.  I just posted details of my setup.
